Sensei Jeff Brown, founder of the International Institute of Martial Arts, Inc. began his training at the age of ten in Canada in the art of Wado Ryu under Sensei Ray Green and Master Shintani. His training continued training in California and Arizona while competing professionally in kickboxing.
At the age of eighteen, Sensei Brown founded The International Institute of Martial Arts and utilized the Sports Palace in Escondido for instruction. The studio began with thirteen students and by the end of the first year, it had grown to over sixty. In 1994, he IIMA moved into a larger facility located at 346 E. Valley Parkway in Escondido where it became recognized for training world, national and local champions. In 1996, IIMA returned from the Vegas World Championships with one World Championship Title in Kumite.

By 1998, The International Institute of Martial Arts had grown to over 120 students. IIMA opened a new and larger location which offered a full-size kickboxing ring and academic tutoring center on W. El Norte Parkway in Escondido. Within the first two months, enrollment doubled. In November of 1998, Sensei Brown was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame for his exceptional breaking ability. The 1999 IMAC World Championship Tournament in Vegas awarded IIMA nine World Championship Titles.

IIMA completed its first remodeling project of the Escondido location in March of 2002. The new look included fully matted floors with Olympic style Swain mats, a pro shop, Black Belt Club distinguished uniforms, a boxing training center, private lesson room and Krav Maga classes.

In January 2003, The International Institute of Martial Arts relocated to its current headquarters location at 456 East Mission Road in San Marcos. The new facility, nearly 20,000 square feet, offers four training rooms with a wide variety of classes ranging from Jujitsu, Aikido, Kickboxing, boot camps, Summer Camps, school pick-up programs and academic tutoring. IIMA took home twelve 1st place World Championship Trophies at the IMAC tournament in Vegas and held over fifty World and National Titles.

In 2004, Sensei Brown was inducted into the Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame in Atlantic City for his instructional abilities and he was inducted into the Masters Martial Arts Hall of Fame for his exceptional contribution to the martial arts through his integration of martial arts in after-school programs.

The International Fitness Center, immediately adjacent to IIMA, opened for business in January 2004. The gym includes full service gym equipment, personal training, tanning beds, locker rooms with showers, nutritional supplements and kids classes.

January 2006 marked the opening of a second location of International Institute of Martial Arts under the instruction of Sensei Jeff Crothers. This facility is located in Vista, CA. A third facility, located in Escondido, is scheduled to open in September 2006.

The IIMA 2006 World Team consisted of the 20 most elite martial artists of IIMA. The International Institute of Martial Arts was declared the most "winningest school" at this event and Sensei Brown received nomination to the 2007 IMAC Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

The International Institute of Martial Arts is affiliated with the Swiftkick after-school karate program sponsored by the Escondido Police Athletic League and with Kids College after school programs (www.thekidscollege.com). IIMA"s KidFit USA program is a physical education and after school program that incorporates fitness, martial arts and character development throughout local schools.

The International Institute of Martial Arts believes in encouraging students to be the best they can be both physically and intellectually and that if students make good choices in life, they will achieve exceptionality.
